proper golf swing sequenceIf you are ever going to reach your potential as a golfer, you will need to master the proper sequence of the golf swing.

The golf swing is a complex movement pattern just like other complex movement patterns.

In order to perform a golf swing well, you need to move the body in the proper order.

With that said, this does not mean that your golf swing must look like the golf swing of Tiger Woods.

According to MyTPI, the best players in the world have wildly different looking golf swings, but very similar sequencing.  (They refer to it as the kinematic sequence of the golf swing).

These golfers all have at least average athletic ability and virtually all tour players started playing golf at a young age.

By starting at a young age, all they had to do was mimic other decent golfers, and they could create a swing that could get the job done.

Unfortunately, golfers who take up the game later in life no longer have the ability to build a golf swing just by imitation.

As we age, the signals from the brain to the muscles are no longer as strong, and we may also have some wear and tear that makes things more difficult as well.

With that in mind, the best way to train the proper sequence of the golf swing is by learning it in pieces and then putting it all together.

It is also best that the golfer trains the sequence without a golf club in their hands.  That simply adds another layer of complexity that isn’t needed at this early stage.

Learning the golf swing in this manner is similar to how you would learn a martial arts technique.

You don’t just start trying to throw a spinning kick without understanding the pieces involved.

I’ve laid out the exact process for learning the golf swing sequence in my Ebook, The Samurai Golfer.  You can get your copy just by filling out the sign up form to the right of this post.

How to master the golf swing sequence

To master the golf swing sequence, you first train it piece by piece in front of a mirror.

For instance, from your golf set up, first just shift the weight onto the back foot, and then back to your golf stance.

Then from the position where more weight is on the back foot, turn the hips.  Repeat that a few times until you are getting it right.

Then you can start from your golf set up and shift the weight and turn the hips at the same time.

Over time you continue to add a piece of the golf swing until you’ve pieced it all together.

Then, you perform slow motion swings without the club in your hand for many repetitions.

You should do this on a daily basis for at least 15 minutes until it becomes natural and you can start to speed up the movement.

Eventually, you can then put a club in your hands and run through the same process.

Final thoughts

Mastering the proper golf swing sequence is the first step toward become a great ball striker.

Unfortunately, it is a step that is skipped by virtually every golfer who picks up the game as an adult.

This is why most golfers will never break 90 for a round of golf.

The major theme of The Samurai Golfer is repetition.

Along with practicing your putting, practicing the golf swing sequence can be done at home, so there is really no excuse for not getting it right.

Again, I encourage you to become a subscriber to get my Ebook so that you can learn the proper golf swing sequence and start on the path to better golf.
